Welcome to the official site of the Gloucester Art Trail. The Gloucester Art Trail Organisation (GATO) was set up to establish an annual visual arts festival in Gloucester UK. There are events planned for 2008 prior to the full festival launch. We had hoped the launch would be in May 2009 but regeneration of the city has made it difficult to know whether we can now access major public sites. We are however continuing to organise events and exhibitions regardless of these difficulties. Artists and arts organisations, locally and internationally, are hoping to participate in them and are also looking forward to the full launch of this exciting new venture. We believe that Gloucester and its citizen’s will enjoy and benefit from Art Trail events and we are sure visitors to our city will too. Events and exhibitions page. Mission statement/remit. GATO/Gloucester Artist Network has made contact with and/or links to the following organisations and individuals toward on-going and future partnership initiatives and collaborations: Tewkesbury artdepot Glos. Printmaking Co-op Gouda Artists group (Burgvliet) Nathalie Vin of The Glow Project and Mosaic Worlds Gloucestershire Dance Cranham village artists Sabre Art Studio-Gallery Stroudwater Textiles Trust Cheltenham Art Glos. Society of Artists Pralay Lal (India) The Three Choirs Fringe Festival Gloucester Dance Studio Paul O’Neill (theatre production) Artshape • Efforts to forge and establish further links and partnerships with arts and community groups, educational establishments and businesses are on-going. • It is hoped GATO/GANet can expand communication with SVA for future projects. • Nathalie Vin, who is the artist responsible for projections onto Buckingham Palace and the Brighton Pavilion, also runs mosaic workshops. She is keen to work with the Gloucester Art Trail on future projects. • Pralay Lal is aiming to fund a touring exhibition to Gloucester in the future, as part of the Gloucester Art Trail Org. • GATO/GANet is actively seeking to maintain and establish further contact with artists and art groups in Gloucester’s ‘Twin Towns’: Gouda, St Ann’s, Metz and Trier (and has volunteer translators of French and German working on its behalf). GATO/GANet has already established ongoing communication with Gouda artists and we have made good contacts in St Ann and Trier. Our first joint project,'Here and There/Hier en Daar'; a virtual exhibition of artist's work, was shown at the City Museum in summer 2007 and we hope to expand on this early success. • Ongoing plans include mosaic workshops within the community to create public art by way of a mosaic trail in Barton St. We started a feasibility study for this project at the end of 2007 and hope to hold the first mosaic workshop at The Friendship Cafe in 2008. We are awaiting the result of a funding application to create a visual schematic so that people can envisage the plan and we will be applying for money to commence the main scheme shortly. • As Gloucester is undergoing huge changes under the regeneration project, we have found that most agencies are reluctant to confirm whether requested venues for art exhibitions and events can be made available in 2009, when we had hoped to fully launch the Art Trail. We are in the hands of other people and are not confident that the appointed agencies see art as being part of their agenda. We cannot therefore confirm that we can advance as planned. We will however continue to organise exhibitions and events in collaboration with our other partners. Our main concentration will be on securing the Mosaic Trail in Barton St; an inner city area that is not part of the 'Magnificent Seven'regeneration plans. We are also developing several project ideas with Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery. | |||
